Midevil Meal

We had a good time the other night with our neighbors Joe and Audrey. Usually we get together ever weekend and have a game night. This week it was our turn and decided to have a midevil meal.

Cris got some Burger King crowns for everyone since it was one of his delivery stops while working and Joe brought some beer steins that he family got when they lived in Germany. Don't worry, there wasn't any beer at the dinner party, just cream soda : )

Audrey said that she had never had a cornish hen before and since we have made them so many time we thought that would be a great main dish. Of course we had to have the usual fixings of asparagus and mashed potatoes with Cris' homemade gravy. It was so good and think everyone had a good time : )

And we finally got a fire bowl (well ours is more like a pit). Its a lot bigger than you may think it is. It was so much fun to sit out at the fire and make smores. This also was a good learning experience for Navie. She could feel the heat coming off the fire and knows not to touch or play with fire. Its so cute, anytime she sees a picture of fire she says "hot". I think she has the idea : )

Glad you had a fun time with your dinner. And yes, those fire pits are great...there's something really peaceful about the sound of a crackling fire...and roasting marshmallows is fun, too!

Brooke, I'm so jealous... a firepit has been on our list for quite a while. Roasting mallows, watching the sunset... someday soon we'll get one. And I've never made cornish hen or asparagus. EATEN, yes, but haven't made it. Yum!

You eat Cornish game hen regularly?? REALLY?? I wouldn't even THINK of trying to cook that!! Is it just like roasting a chicken???

Also - I'm so impressed with all your sewing lately!! I haven't had the patience to learn the kind of stuff you're doing. Navie's quilt and dress are adorable!

Melanie- i know what you mean, we wanted one for a little while too. we got ours at lowes. we wanted one that had tile around it but it was too big for our back porch : )

Alyssa- cornish hens are soooo easy!!! its exactly like cooking a chicken, take out the insides... rinse...season as you want...back for 1 hr. i love it! and of course you bet really good drippings(depending on how you season) to make some great gravy!
